What We Heard and What We’re Doing About It
By Sharon Marshall, Executive Director, CARFAC BC
In 2024, CARFAC BC hosted a series of Listening Sessions with artists across the province. We asked, and you answered generously, thoughtfully, and with vision. You told us what is working, what is missing, and what is needed to better support BC’s visual artists. We have taken your words seriously, and we are turning your feedback into action this year.
One of the biggest things we heard was that you want more opportunities to connect with us, with each other, and with artists working in your region and beyond. You asked for more transparency, engagement, and chances to participate meaningfully in shaping the future of CARFAC BC.
So that is exactly what we are doing.
We are starting with our first in-person event of the year:
CARFAC BC Meet & Greet | St. Augustine’s, Vancouver | Fri, July 18, 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. | RSVP
We are inviting our members to a casual get-together, with a complimentary drink on us. Please bring a friend. Whether you are a long-time member or simply curious about what we do, you are welcome. We want to meet you, hear from you, and build this community together.
But this is only the beginning.
We are planning monthly social gatherings and workshops throughout the rest of the year. Artists like you will facilitate some of these workshops. If you are a member with a skill, story, or practice you would like to share, this is your moment to step forward. We will be putting out a call soon, inviting members to propose and lead workshops that reflect the depth and diversity of our community.
We are doing this because artists thrive when they feel connected, supported, and seen, and because you told us so. Your feedback from the Listening Sessions shaped our direction for the year, and we are committed to keeping that feedback front and centre.
So whether at a pub table, in a studio, or on a Zoom screen, we hope to see you soon.
Let us stay connected. Let us keep building.
If you are not yet a member, consider joining us. And if you are a member, bring a friend.

TL;DR: We listened. You asked for more connection, transparency, and opportunities to get involved. Starting July 18 in Vancouver, we are launching monthly meet-and-greets and workshops. The first drink is on us. Let us build this community together.
